February 10th 2004: Issue 02

As promised, below are the details of this Friday's premiere party for Robot Stories. Again, I just want to reiterate how cool I think this space is. Very retro-70's, with a nice red color scheme. And of course, don't forget the Bombay Sapphire open bar and free passed samplings of the yet-to-be-opened sushi-fusion restaurant, Tang. So just go see the movie and it will be free entrance! Lets all help to support a fellow Korean-American in the movie business.

In other news, I have officially changed my role model to William Hung. www.williamhung.net. My favorite is the "Hey Ya" remix. Paul An eat your heart out! Oh yeah, don't forget to hit up the Barneys Warehouse Sale this week too.

Underscore Media, Pak Film and Shotwell Media cordially invite you to celebrate with the filmmaker, cast and crew, at the Official Premiere Party for "Robot Stories" with a night of music and dancing at Gallery, the newly opened club/lounge of the Gershwin Hotel. This amazing space is themed with a vivacious 70's styling and has curvy oversized red banquettes, orange lounge furniture and a wall adorned with funky orange donut-shaped light fixtures. The bar and lounge shares a wall dominated by a large mural depicting red, pink and white irises and chrysanthemums and connecting screening room is evocative of an old private club rich with wood paneling.

Get there early! Enjoy one and half hours of a Bombay Sapphire open bar from 10:30 PM - 12:00 AM as well as a sampling from the menu of Gallery's not-yet-opened fusion restaurant, Tang (featuring the ex-chef from Nobu) from 10:30 PM - 11:30 PM. Support the fellow Asian-American filmmaker Greg Pak: Free cover for those with a ticket stub from the movie's opening night! Dress to impress. Music by Resident Gallery DJ spinning house and hip hop.

  • Bombay Sapphire Open Bar 10:30 PM - 12:00 AM
  • Free Passed Hors D'oeuvres 10:30 - 11:30
  • Free autographed "Robot Stories" memorabilia

    About Robot Stories
Robot Stories is the winner of over 23 Film Festival awards and features many local NY Asian American actors, as well as film veterans like Tamlyn Tomita ("Joy Luck Club") and Sab Shimono ("The Big Hit"). Awards include the Emerging Director Award from the New York Asian American International Film Festival; Special Jury Award for Emotional Truth from the Florida Film Festival; Best Feature Film honors from the Rhode Island Int'l Film Festival, the SciFi London Film Festival, the DC APA Film Festival, and the SF Korean American Media Arts Festival; and Audience Awards from the Fantastisk Film Festival in Sweden, the Boston Fantastic Film Festival, and the Michigan Independent Film Festival.

Robot Stories is science fiction from the heart; four stories in which utterly human characters struggle to connect in a world of robot babies and android office workers. The stories include: "My Robot Baby," in which a couple (Tamlyn Tomita and James Saito) must care for a robot baby before adopting a human child; "The Robot Fixer," in which a mother (Wai Ching Ho, Best Actress, St. Louis Int'l Film Festival and Puchon Int'l Fantastic Film Festival) tries to connect with her dying son by completing his toy robot collection; "Machine Love," in which an office worker android (Greg Pak) learns that he, too, needs love; and "Clay," in which an old sculptor (Sab Shimono) must choose between natural death and digital immortality.
