July 1st 2004: Issue 12

So with the hot and muggy weather that we all look forward to every summer, some relief comes in the form a few upcoming outdoor events. If you have some time to spare, stand in line and try to score some tickets to this year's Shakespeare in the Park production, Much Ado About Nothing thru August 7th. Or skip the lines and check out some classic films drive-in style at the Bryant Park Film Festival thru August 23rd.

Near my office down in SoHo, its absolutely craziness. They are filming portions of Will Smith and Eva Menedes' new Film The Last First Kiss. There are crew members, actors, onlookers, and trailers all over the place. If you want to see what a 2-story trailer looks like, go to Wooster and Spring and see Will Smith's. Actually, for those of you who actually read this whole newsletter, theres an open call for extras for the film in the "Opportunities" section below.

And on an national level, aside from the recent atrocious beheading of the South Korean hostage, an important act is up for approval in the House Judiciary Committee on July 6th. The North Korean Human Rights Act seeks to improve human rights in North Korea, but seems to have alterior motives for the US. In other political news, 81 US congressmen went to a highly unpublicized coronation of the Korean minister Rev. Sun Myung Moon. Interesting.

And lastly, sad news today as Soon Duk Kim, former comfort woman, renowned and respected for her long-time commitment to seeking redress and reparations from the Japanese government passed away on yesterday at the age of 83 years. In July 2001 Kim halmoni led a delegation opposing the U.S. State Department position on the historic lawsuit filed by 15 former comfort women from four nations in U.S. courts. For information on sending donations, please go to House of Sharing website. The House of Sharing is a communal home for former comfort women and the final home for Kim halmoni.

One of the most renowned contemporary Korean plays with fantastic theatricality and sharp insight into the inhumanity of war. A journey by a son leads him to confront and embrace the painful sin of his family, which is responsible for a massacre during the Korean War. This Korean play by a leading Korean playwright testifies how far and deeply an aftermath of an individual's choice, whether voluntary or forced, can affect the lives of the following generation.Translated by Bruce & Ju-chan Fulton. Directed by Eun Young Bae. CASTING CALL
Actors Wanted for Will Smith Film Last First Kiss

    Sunday, July 4th
    info@amerifilmcasting.com

Amerifilm Casting is seeking young men and women to appear as Background Extras in the feature film Last First Kiss starring Will Smith and Eva Mendes. The filming will take place on JULY 4th in NYC. As this scene is set in the late 1980's there will be a mandatory wardrobe fitting in the costume department sometime around June 23-25th for about an hour.

We are looking for all ethnicities, people that look 23-28 years old. The actual filming could take all day, however it should be done by dark, so there would still be this posting in intended for non-Screen Actors Guild actors - but we do need SAG members too who fit the bill. That notice has been placed on the SAG board at the NYC office.

We also need some more hip, fabulous club types for a bar scene possibly shooting on July 1st, set in the present day. Some pay, no wardrobe fitting required. If you are interested in that please email a picture but put NEW CLUB SCENE in the subject line. Only submit for one scene, not both as we will not use the same extras in both scenes. Also, if you worked in the club scenes in April out at the Red Hook stage you may not be eligible to do these scenes - unless you look completely different!
